Despite a full dinner at Shunjuu, my dinner companions somehow have a "2nd stomach" for dessert, so we adjourned to Canele nearby. This Canele outlet actually offers a full food and drinks menu, including soups, pastas and crepes. Owned by the famed Les Amis group (www.lesamis.com.sg/, Canele is well known for its range of sinfully rich dark chocolate cakes ("Le Royale"is named one of 50 best Singapore cakes by The Sunday Times S'pore on 6 Apr 08) and macarons. The dark chocolate cake shaped like a planet and a roasted almond tart topped with strawberry (see bottom picture) we ordered were delicious, although my personal preference is for the almond dessert. This place boasts an open-concept kitchen (see top picture) so diners can see the chefs at work. Diners can indulge their sweet tooth further by buying the chocolate sweets and other pastries on display.
